IMPHAL, August 8: Atleast two Border Security Forces (BSF) personnel sustained injury when suspected militants exploded three low intensity bombs at the busy Imphal-Mao sector of the National Highway-39 on Monday morning.
The incident took place when a convoy of 54 BSF passed through the area between Changoubung-Kangpokpi, about 3km ahead of Kangpokpi police station under Senapati district, at around 10.45 am, police sources said.
The injured BSF personnel who were boarded in a mini bus (AS-01-S3-8780) have been identified as constables Anil Kumar and Lalji Yadav. Anil sustained injury on his hand while Lalji on his leg, sources said.
Both the injured personnel were given first aids by Assam Rifles troops and later the convoy proceeded towards its destination, it added.
No armed group or individuals claimed the responsibility for the explosion till the filing of this report. At the same time, police is yet to come out with a clear picture of the incident. However, a case has been reportedly registered in connection with the incident.Monday’s bomb explosion occurred after an IED exploded near the state museum complex in Imphal on August 5 where one CRPF personnel and a 2-year-old minor girl sustained injury.
Earlier, in view of the upcoming Independence day observation in the state, Manipur police team in association with police commandoes conducted a search operation in and around Uripok Khoisnam Leikai in Imphal West district.
Meanwhile, Manipur police’s narcotics and affairs of border police station seized 970 grams of heroin substance worth around Rs 24,25,000 from the possession of Zakir Ahmed alias Abo, 48 and Md Abir Khan, 35 both from Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai during an operation on August 6 this year. A case has been registered and investigation is on, said PRO RK Tutusana of state police department in a release.
In another development, police commandoes of Imphal East district, arrested a lady member of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front, identified as Th Puinabati Devi alias Inaocha, 47, of Khurai Konsam Leikai in Imphal East district during an operation on August 7.
A separate press note issued by Assam Rifles said, in the wake of the security threats including recent IED blasts in Imphal valley and surroundings, and prevailing unrest in Manipur, 45 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) organised a security meeting with community representatives and village headmen at Sawombung in Imphal East dist on August 7 and emphasised that a secure environment is essential for collective growth in the state.
