Tuluni Festival: Know your customs, culture and traditions, says Sukhalu

Dimapur, July 8 (EMN): Tuluni festival was celebrated with splendour and grandeur at Zunheboto town hall on July 8 with Advisor, School Education, K T Sukhalu as Tuluni Papuh or Tuluni Father.
Tuluni is a festival celebrated by the Sumi Nagas for abundant and fruitful season. This year’s event was organised by Zunheboto Area Public Organisation (ZAPO), according to an update by DIPR. Various cultural activities like folk dance, folk song, top spinning competition, recitation of Tuluni poem or proverbs etc. were the highlights of the programme.

While speaking at the event, Sukhalu lamented that “in the past, cultural traditions were given utmost importance but with the coming of western culture in our society, we have forgotten our cultural values, customs and traditions.”

He urged the younger generation to know their customs, culture and traditions.
The Tuluni Papuh “directed the GBs to be strict in case of school education by not entertaining any proxy teachers in their respective jurisdictions and not to compromise on the student’s future.” He also requested the land owners not to hinder developmental activities by seeking land compensation but co-operate with the government as it is for the benefits of everyone.

Celebration at Naga United Village
The Sümi Community of Naga United Village (SCNUV) celebrated Tuluni festival on July 6, marking the season of protecting the crops and to rejoice the abundant and fruitful yielding.

Chaired by Kivigho Zhimomi, women group led by Ngukatoli Zhimomi and Atibo Zhimomi presented a folk song (Aye küzüle) and Sumi Students’ Union NUV performed a traditional show during the event, informed a press release issued by Kakihe Zhimo, secretary of SCNUV.

AFE Sumi community celebrates silver jubilee
The Agri Forest Electrical (AFE) Sumi Community, Kohima celebrated silver jubilee coinciding with Tuluni festival at the State Academy Hall, Kohima, on July 8.

Er. Vitoshe Rochill, additional chief engineer Power, Nagaland, graced the festival as Tuluni Father.
In his address to the gathering, Rochill spoke about the need to pursue good moral values of forefathers. He also called upon the youth to work hard and excel in life.

“As we continue to strive together, it is my humble request to all the members in the colony to stand together as in the past for the progress and prosperity of all the residents,” Rochill wrote in the souvenir of AFE Sumi Community, Kohima.

Earlier, Khekiye Sema released the silver jubilee souvenir while Hoto Yeptho shared greetings. Kohima Sumi Hoho President Vinito Chishi also delivered a short speech. The programme also featured cultural dances and songs.
