Tuensang receives best Kayakalp award

KOHIMA — District Hospital Tuensang (DHT) with a score of 85.86% was declared the winner of the Kayakalp Award for the financial year 2022-23 and received a cash award of INR 25,00,000.

Additionally, commendation awards of INR 3,00,000 were received by District Hospitals Kiphire (76.00%), Mon (78.29%), Dimapur (75.00%), Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (72.43%), Wokha (70.86%), IMDH Mokokchung (83.29%), and Phek (81.71%).

The felicitation programme for Kayakalp awards for FY 2022-23 and 2021-22 was held at the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare in Kohima on Friday. Hospitals were assessed on eight thematic areas to determine award recipients.

Kayakalp, rejuvenating public healthcare facilities, was launched in May 2015 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, to acknowledge efforts that ensure quality assurance in public health facilities.

In the Community Health Centre (CHC) category, CHC Aboi in Mon district was declared the best by scoring 75.14% and received INR 10,00,000. Cash awards of INR 1,00,000 each were received by CHC Tuli (73.57%), CHC Bhandari (70.57%), CHC Chozuba (74.71%), CHC Noklak (71.71%), CHC Jalukie (70.43%) and CHC Changtongya (81.71%) under the commendation category.

Primary Health Centres (PHC) including Pherima (87.00%), Chunlikha (89.20%), Likhimro (82.50%), Chuchuyimlang (92.80%), Changlangshu (89.20%), Tening (91.10%), Ruzazho (91.00%), Chessore (75.30%), Nyiro (81.40%) and Akuluto (87.20%) received cash awards of INR 2,00,000 each for the best PHC.

Commendation award of INR 50,000 were awarded to PHC Alongkima (76.10%), PHC Longkhum (74.70%), PHC Mangmetong (74.40%), PHC Merangkong (73.90%), PHC Mongsenyimti (86.70%), PHC Sabangya (82.50%), PHC Sitimi (79.40%), PHC Seyochung (75.60%), PHC Athibung (88.50%), PHC Heningkunglwa (73.10%), PHC Khonoma (70.30%), PHC Jakhama (76.90%), PHC Kezocha (75.80%), PHC Tesophenyu (70.80%), PHC Kimipfuphe (70.80%), PHC Phomching (78.10%), PHC Dzulhami (73.00%), PHC Chetheba (70.00%), PHC Kikruma (76.00%), PHC Phusachodu (81.00%), PHC Thuvopisu (73.00%), PHC Zuketsa (70.00%), PHC Chukitong (81.90%), PHC Wozhuro (72.20%), PHC Noksen (70.00%), PHC Chare (78.60%), PHC Satakha (70.60%), PHC Suruhoto (73.10%), PHC Chümoukedima (87.00%), PHC Kuhuboto (85.80%) and PHC Singrijan (71.50%).

Under the category of the best Health and Wellness Sub-Center (HWC SC), an award of INR 1,00,000 was presented to Mopungchuket (88.80%),

Bongkolong (76.30%), Sekruzu (79.00%), Changsu (82.90%), Diphupar-B (80.00%), Kisetong (85.40%), Pongo (84.60%), New Chingmei (76.30%), Rusoma (82.50%), Chishilimi (76.70%) and Aopao (76.70%).

Additionally, HWC–SC commendation award of INR 25,000 were award to Longmisa (87.10%), Longpayimsen (75.80%), Yaongyimsen (70.00%), Longkong (82.50%), Anatonger (79.20%), Phelungre (70.40%), Seyochung (74.60%), Singrep (84.20%), Zhimkiur (73.30%), Longmatra (70.80%), Tangha (77.50%), Mhainamtsi (72.50%), Saijang (75.00%), Jalukiezandi (71.30%), Punglwa (80.40%), Gaili (80.80%), Samziuram (71.70%), Phugi (70.00%), Pongitong (75.40%), Wokha village (78.30%), Naga United (82.10%), Nagarjan (78.10%), Aoyimti (79.20%), Noungchoung (71.30%), Tonglonsor (70.40%), Sangsangnyu (71.30%), Asukiqa (74.20%), Kohima Sc. Coll. (82.50%), Meriema (72.90%) and Thizama (80.00%).

Tuensang District Hospital (DHT) also received the Eco-friendly award of INR 5,00,000.

Under the UPCH category, commendation awards of INR 50,000 each were given to Mokokchung, Seikhazou, Poterlane, Duncan, Burma Camp, and Wokha.

Various awards in different categories for FY 2021-22 were awarded during the programme.

Addressing the gathering, minister of Health and Family Welfare, P Paiwang Konyak, highlighted the significance of Kayakalp, an initiative under the National Health Mission (NHM) launched by the Government of India. He stated that Kayakalp awards were bestowed upon public hospitals to acknowledge their outstanding performances.

He added that the Kayakalp programme focuses on promoting cleanliness, enhancing the quality of care, and implementing infection control practices in all hospitals. He apprised how the initiative was introduced in the state in 2015-16 and has notably increased community involvement through social work and contributions, both in cash and kind, for the betterment of healthcare facilities.

He stated that the success of Kayakalp has resulted in improved cleanliness in public hospitals, enhanced infection prevention control, and greater demand for public health services.

“This has also strengthened the commitment of healthcare providers,” Konyak said while commending the 163 health units that received recognition during the ceremony for their commendable work.

Konyak appealed to everyone in the health sector to continue their dedicated efforts toward improving public health services. He further extended his congratulations to the recognised health units and encouraged the others to strive for the award in the upcoming years.

Dr. S Manyau Phom, NHM deputy director, highlighted the Kayakalp’s objectives, which included promoting cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene in public healthcare facilities, incentivizing and recognizing exemplary performance and fostering a culture of ongoing assessment and peer review.

He stated the assessment criteria for hospitals included hospital upkeep, sanitation and hygiene, waste management, infection control, hospital support services, hygiene promotion, beyond boundary, and eco-friendliness (added in 2021-22) for DH and CHC.

The event featured speeches by V Kezo, commissioner and secretary of Health department; Dr. Ritu Thurr, principal director of NHM; Dr. E Motsuthung Patton, director of health, DoHFW; and Dr. C Tetseo, director of dental, DoHFW.

A video clip showcasing Kayakalp activities at District Hospital Tuensang was also screened.
