Tuensang Police holds drug abuse awareness events, apprehends peddler

DIMAPUR — In an effort to eliminate drug abuse in the district, DEF Tuensang, led by SP Tuensang Kanchan Kumar Kandpal, held a drug abuse awareness programme at Chare town on August 3.

Members of the village council, DBs, students, women, and representatives from various organisations participated in the programme, which concluded with a pledge to work together to spread awareness and control the abuse.

In another initiative, on August 11, SDPO Tuensang Manish Bhartiya conducted an interaction session with the youths of Tuensang who were drug addicts. During the session, he emphasised the importance of individual roles and responsibilities in bringing about social change.

He discussed the health risks and the impact of socioeconomic status and encouraged the youths in attendance to contribute positively to the fight against drug menace in society.

Also, under the supervision of SP Tuensang, the family welfare committee of DEF Tuensang organised a three-day baking class from August 3 to 5.

The class had about 20 participants who were taught baking ideas using various products and ingredients. NCE Ram Prakash of DEF Tuensang led the training, with assistance from ABC Vipul Mech.

Tiranga rally

DEF Tuensang organised a tiranga rally on August 14 in Tuensang town to raise awareness about 'Har Ghar Tiranga'.

According to a press release, the event was attended by Tuensang Police, led by SP Tuensang, administrative officers led by DC Tuensang, and well-wishers from Tuensang town.

On the occasion of India’s 77th Independence Day, traffic constable T Throngrun Yimchunger of DEF Tuensang, the seniormost among the in-service personnel of the unit, was presented with an appreciation certificate along with a presentation from SP Tuensang in recognition of his valuable service to the unit and Nagaland Police in general.

Furthermore, 52 members and officers of the unit received cash rewards. In this regard, on August 14, a cash reward ceremony was held at Durbar Hall, SP office, Tuensang.

Drug peddler apprehended

Meanwhile, Tuensang Police received information from a reliable source on August 1 that a suspected drug peddler was travelling in an NST bus and transporting suspected heroin from Dimapur to Shamator.

Accordingly, one vehicle, NST bus B/No-NI112759, was intercepted near Tuensang town hall, and during the search, the team recovered around 14.51 g of suspected heroin from the possession of one person, identified as Tsaki Yimchunger (35) of Betang village, Pungro.

In this regard, a case has been registered under Tsg PS C/No. 37/23, U/S. 22 NDPS Act.
