Dimapur — In its relentless effort to curb drug menace in the district, Tuensang Police have arrested six drug peddlers from various locations in the past nine days and seized huge quantities of illegal drugs.
A police report issued by the PRO and Additional Superintendent of Police, Tuensang, stated that the Quick Reaction Team (QRT) from Crime Branch recovered suspected heroin weighing 17.21 gram during a house search at Litsung ‘B; ward in Longkhim town on July 18.
It stated that one person identified as Zungtholi (23) from Lirise village and resident of Litsung ‘B’ Ward in Longkhim town was arrested in this connection. It added that a case has been registered under NDPS Act for further investigation.
In another incident on July 22, Tuensang police personnel conducted a search in a suspected location and recovered suspected heroin weighing 2.23 gram from the possession of Johna Chang (50) of Sipongsang village and resident of Seyouh Sector in Tuensang town. In this connection, a case has been registered under NDPS Act for further investigation.
On the same day, Tuensang police along with the representatives of the colony leaders of Phinjang sector in Tuensang town conducted a house search and recovered 1620 tablets of Alprozolan from the possession of Mukam (35) of Waoshu village and resident of Phinjang sector in Tuensang town. It stated that a case has been registered under NDPS Act for further investigation.
Also on July 22, basing on specific information, Tuensang police swung into action at the suspected location and apprehended one Ngushe alias George from Tobu village and resident of Burma Camp, Dimapur. The police recovered 37.39 gram of suspected heroin from his possession. A case has been registered under NDPS Act for further investigation.
Further on July 26, basing on reliable information about drug peddler coming to Tuensang, the QRT of Crime Branch swung into action and recovered 32.33 gram of suspected heroin from a Blue Hill bus bearing registration No. NL-03B 0729 at around 8:30 am from ISBT in Tuensang town. In this connection, two women identified as Ronthunglo (30) of Bhandari village and resident of Purana Bazaar, Dimapur, and Yamtsnaui (32) of Wui village and resident of Second gate, Chümoukedima town, were taken into custody. It added that a case has been registered under NDPS Act for further investigation.
Meanwhile, on July 20, Tuensang Police has organised an awareness programme on cyber security and financial fraud for government employees in Tuensang town. The awareness programme was organised with an aim to educate on the rising threat of cybercrime.
It stated that around 50 government employees from different departments attended the programme.
During the programme, ASI Putiyanger from cybercrime cell, highlighted on the rise of cybercrime and elaborated on some common crimes such as cyber stalking, credit card fraud, identity theft, investment scams, online loan app scams, online mobile lottery scam, ransom ware, NFC scam, GB whatsapp scam, text bomb, phishing, simshing, vishing, OLX fraud, QR code fraud etc.
During the awareness drive, complaint portal such as National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) and Helpline No. 1930 were shared to all the participants.
During the programme, the PRO and additional SP of Tuensang informed the participants to come forward and report to the police in case of any cheating or cyber related crime.

Pfütsero, July 26 (EMN): Chakhesang community, on Wednesday, felicitated its first Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Vevotolü Kezo, during a programme held at Pioneer’s Complex conference hall of the CBCC, T Chikri, in Pfütsero town in Phek district.
The programme was organised by the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) and Chakhesang Gazetted Officers’ Association (CGOA) and attended by various frontal organisations, churches and village councils.
Speaking at the programme, Vevotolü Kezo credited her success to God and parents for their unceasing care and support. She also urged the young aspirants to have determination, work hard, have self-confidence and make good use of internet and technology for resources and guidance and to maintain healthy body and mind and above all trust in God to achieve success in life.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister of Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye, said Vevotolü Kezo has brought much pride and recognition to the Chakhesang community. He stated that Chakhesang community got its first IAS officer after 77 years of the tribe recognition. He also reminded that Goyiepra Kenye was the first gazetted officer from the Chakhesang community.
While appreciating the efforts made by the parents of Vevotolü Kezo, Kenye has expounded on the important role of parents in fulfilling the aspiration of their children. The minister urged Kezo to guide the aspirants by sharing her experience and also work for the welfare of people.
An elated president of Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO), Vezuhu Keyho, said the Chakhesang community has been blessed with an IAS officer for the first time since the tribe was recognised 77 years ago. He has lauded Khupo Kezo and Pusucholu Kezo, the parents of Vevotolü Kezo, for good parenting and enabling her achieve the milestone.
The president of Chakhesang Gazetted Officers’ Association (CGOA), Vekhosa Kotso, said, “It has become the collective aspiration and prayer of our people to see our children crack the UPSC to become IAS officers and God has shown us his favour.”
Being a police officer himself, Kotso said it is an incredible accomplishment that speaks volumes of hard work and indomitable spirit.
“We congratulate and salute you. Your success is not an event, it is an outcome of your determination and resilience that you have developed on the first day of your schooling. I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to face all the obstacles in your journey. You have proven to our people that anything is possible with the right mindset and determination,” said the CGOA president.
Khupo Kezo, father of Vevotolü Kezo, has acknowledged God and the love, support and prayer shown by the Chakhesang community towards his daughter and family.
Meanwhile, the president of Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF), Vezhodüyi Nakro, commended Vevotolü Kezo for becoming the first IAS among the Chakhesangs to achieve the coveted post. He said the milestone has finally fulfilled the long aspired dream of the community as a whole.
A thanksgiving prayer was offered by Rev. Dr. Chekrovei Cho-o, executive secretary of Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC).
