Tuensang observes ‘World Suicide Prevention Day’

Doctors and nurses along the students of School of Nursing School on the occasion of ‘World Suicide Prevention Day in Tuensang town on September 10.

Dimapur, Sep. 10 (EMN): District Hospital Tuensang observed the ‘World Suicide Prevention Day’ at the multi-purpose building of School of Nursing, Tuensang, on September 10 on the theme ‘Creating hope through action.’

During the programme, the medical officer and psychiatrist of DH Tuensang, Dr. Senilo Magh, spoke on preventing suicides, common misconceptions and myths about suicide and how one could identify and intervene someone with suicidal ideation and attempt. He also stressed on how one could protect oneself from taking such drastic measures during stressful moment, an update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Tuensang, stated on Friday.

The programme was chaired by psychiatric social worker, Beigu Phom, while the world suicide prevention was presented by RKSK counsellor Sentilemla, and a role play was presented by NCD counsellor, Hongmo Lam and friends. It also stated that a prayer for suicide survivors was said by Aveni, chaplain of District Hospital Tuiensang.

The participants included staffs of District Hospital Tuensang along with around 100 students of school of nursing. 

Meanwhile, the office of CMO, Tuensang, also conducted a one-day training on HIV and Syphilis screening for community health officer (CHO) and auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) in Tuensang and Noklak districts on September 7 and 8. The training was organised by Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) and sponsored by National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO).

It stated that the resource person and deputy director of NSACS (BSD), Dr. Nukshisangla, highlighted the HIV scenario of Tuensang and Noklak districts. She also emphasised on the basics of prevention of parent to child transmission (PPTCT) and programme guidelines, factors that increase transmission of HIV from mother to a child, essential package and effectiveness of PPTCT services.

It also stated that the North East Technical Manager of Share India, Dr. Nanglong, also spoke on community based screening of HIV, community mobilisation, while the consultant lab technician of Share India, Vikeviel Thapo, briefed on the kits used and storage for screening.

Practical session on HIV and Syphilis screening were demonstrated by lab technician of MICTS IDS, Tuensang, and ICTC CHC, Noklak. The training was attended by DAPCU Tuensang, ANM and CHO from different health units under Tuensang and Noklak districts.
