Residents of Pfutseromi village celebrate Tsükhenyie festival

DIMAPUR — A four-day Tsükhenyie festival-cum-77th annual youth day of Pfutseromi Youth Organization (PYO) got underway in Pfutseromi village under Phek district on Friday on the theme “Progress through culture.”
An update from the organisers stated that the advisors of Tribal Affairs and Election, H Tovihoto Ayemi, inaugurated Pfutseromi village community hall in the presence of MLA Dr. Neisatuo Mero and other dignitaries on the occasion. The Pfutseromi village community hall was constructed by Tribal Affairs department.
Addressing the gathering, Ayemi lauded the contribution of the PYO since its formation in 1947. He called upon the PYO to have a clear vision towards protecting serving the community.

Stressing on the need to strengthen Naga unity, Ayemi said “We as a Naga society, if we are to progress, we have to come together as one.”
Sharing greetings, Dr. Mero said, “This is a time for wearing the best traditional and cultural attires to be elegant and serve the best food during the celebration. It is also a time to purify and cleanse ourselves both physically and spiritually and prepare to face any challenges in the days to come and looking forward with new hope and prosperity in life, he said.
Dr. Mero thanked the chief minister of Nagaland, Dr.Neiphiu Rio, for all round development in the state, particularly in 16th Pfutsero Assembly Constituency and Pfutseromi village. He also thanked Tovihoto Ayemi for inaugurating the village community hall.
Earlier, PYO president Wekote Mero delivered presidential address while keynote address was delivered by Lhiwepelo Ritse, chairman Pfutseromi village council.
The programme also witnessed blowing of traditional wind instrument competition, declaration of PYO new office bearers etc.
The vote of thanks was delivered by PYO advisor, Neiwe Mero.
Tsukhenyie is a festival invoking fertility and rainfall for a new and fresh agricultural cycle with an ultimate aim for a bountiful harvest.
Pfutseromi village celebrates the festival in full traditional fervour showcasing the rich and vibrant cultural heritage of the Chakhesang Nagas.
The celebration on April 25 would witness damsels flocking to terrace fields in full traditional attires for fishing and hunt snails.
On April 26, respective clans/ khels would assemble in groups to feast and deliberate on important issues.
On April 27, the youth would compete for Tsükhenyie wrestling championship title.
