IMPHAL, April 25
To protect and preserve the boundaries of their native states, Manipur People’s Party(MPP) has joined hands with the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura(IPFT) being the members of North East Regional Political Front.
Presidents of MPP N Sovakiran and IPFT NC Debbarma conveyed this during a media interaction in Imphal on Saturday. Both the MPP and IPFT believed that their respective states will have to be ruled by the indigenous people of the region in order to address the grievances of the indigenous people.
IPFT supremo Debbarma airdashed here along with party general secretary A Debbarma on the invitation of MPP, ahead of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections 2015 slated to be on May 3 next across 28 district councils, to meet MPP leaders for developing a long term relationship between the two parties.
IPFT supremo also said that Manipur and Tripura have a historical relationship. Marriage alliances between the royal families of Manipur and Tripura were common phenomena after the first marriage alliance occurred during the reign of Tripura king Taidakshin, the 43rd Raja, according to historians.Reacting to the a question about the expectations of TTAADC elections results this time, IPFT president said, “the contest would be neck to neck fight with the ruling CPI.”
Recently a team of MPP has visited the hill areas of Tripura for the ADC election campaign.
Advisor of MPP and former Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur Dr Leishangthem Chandramani participating in the day’s press conference said that the Tripura and Manipur have similar grounds.
MPP is working since its establishment for the protection of the state’s boundary in the interest of the indigenous people.Likewise Debarmas rule Tripura for many years. But now they live in hills as scheduled tribes, he added. Outsiders outnumbered them in their own land.
“So our forefather’s sacrifice for our today likewise you sacrifice for their tomorrow”, Chandramani felt. Stating that people of the state need to learn many things from Tripura for the future, MPP President N Sovakiran appealed to take up Nationalism as priority in governing a state instead of profit based so called ‘development’ process in the NE states of Assam, Manipur and Tripura. The visiting IPFT leaders will be staying a night and leave for their state tomorrow.
