Kohima, April 1 (EMN): In continuous exercise of its co-curricular activities, Trinity School, Kohima, held its 7th Annual Sports Week 2017 from March 28 to 30 at New Reserve Police Ground and School premises. Dr.Asalie Khezhie, Manager, State Dairy Farm & Chairman, New Reserve Panchayat and Keneilhoulie Sokrano, President New Reserve Youth Organisation, graced the occasion as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Dr.Khezhie in his address to the students highlighted the importance of physical fitness without which a person cannot stand up to face the challenges be it in sports or academics. He remarked “without a proper physical strength, we cannot achieve our desired goals.”
Further, while stressing on the relevance of sports and games in a student’s career, he says, each person has got different set of talents and in relation to that sports and games is also very much creditable to be keenly tap-in as a human resource. He narrated his own experiences of a being a sportsperson during his schooling and youth days where he was a State player in the game of football and table tennis. He added, through his meritorious performances he was awarded a Scholarship amount of Rs 300 each in the stated games during his schooling period between Class 6 – 10 and thus, he was not depending on his parents for his expenses.
A major highlight of the inaugural programme was the march past competition amongst the four houses led by the School Prefect, Vilhourieno and Vice Prefect, Yimnasangla, and eventually the Japfü House (Blue) were declared as the winners followed by Dzükou House (Yellow), Patkai House (Green), Japfü and Saramati House (Red). The function was chaired by Lucy, invocation was pronounced by Susan. The students of Class 6 presented a special song, while, the welcome address was delivered by Kevin Solo, the School Administrator. The sports meet commenced with the open declaration of the three days Sports Meet by the chief guest and oath taking led by Dapuzü.
The three days meet was marked with events such as football, volleyball, athletics, carom, badminton, table tennis, dodge ball, 3 legged race, ball passing, cock fight and futsal.
