Tribal youth cultural exchange programme held in Tuensang

Speaking on the occasion, Tetso said that the present generation is living in a transition period where modern technologies are overshadowing the rich culture and traditions. He urged the gathering to preserve culture and tradition as they battle with the changing era. He added that organising such event is a fine example and steps towards preserving the rich culture and traditions. While pointing out the importance of developmental activities in the modern era, he stated that it should not be at the cost of its culture and traditions. He rather stated that culture and tradition should have positive impacts on development. Stating that globalisation has impacted and made a paradigm shift in global cultural structure, he said preserving one’s culture and tradition would give them an identity which could be recognised in the world. Nungsanglemba Chang and Dr. Benjung Lam, president KUT, delivered short speeches. Both the speakers were of the view that youngsters who have passion in learning their cultural and traditional values are complete in themselves. Nungsanglemba Chang stated that being rooted in cultural and traditional values are important components to be a good citizen. Dr. Benjung Lam was also of the view that culture and tradition are important foundation of life. He urged the gathering to trace back the values before it get distorted with modernity. During the programme, Chang cultural troupe, Khiamniungan cultural troupe, Sangtam cultural troupe and Yimchunger cultural troupe presented cultural items. Pilonglila Sangtam also presented a song. Rulong Sangtam, DCO Tuensang, welcomed the gathering while Akam P, Assistant Research Officer, Tuensang, delivered the vote of thanks.
