Tree plantation marks 73rd Van Mahotsav celebrations in Senapati
Dimapur, July 3 (EMN): A tree plantation drive was organised by Liyai range, Senapati Forest Division to celebrate 73rd Van Mahotsav 2022 at Dzüduri Eco-Tourism Park and Purul village in Senapati district, Manipur.
The drive was held in line with the Manipur government’s vision of planting 75 lakh saplings by August 2022 to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, an update informed. More than 7000 saplings of Cassia, Gulmohar, Ceylon Ironwood, Walnut, Oak, Alder, and Camphor etc. were planted by the participants.
Speaking on the occasion, Kho Peter, the president of Khumai (Tunggam) Union remarked, ‘The millennial generation today are over stimulated by smartphones and computer screens but has lost connection with Mother Nature. We need to make concerted effort to reconnect with her by restoring her health through community tree plantation’.
The next generation needs to be immersed in nature to truly value its sacredness. If children lose contact with nature, they won’t fight for it. To save the endangered environment for the future generation must be our fundamental duty, appealed Daniel Rona, a leader of Hüduna Council.
Meanwhile, Traole Rai, the president of Hills Eco-Adventure Tourism, Manipur stated that Dzüduri has huge potential to be a hot tourist destination and informed that the main objective of choosing the site for afforestation is to provide a gorgeous tree-lined hiking trails that are easy to access so that visitors can ‘feel and be one’ with the trees, it informed.
Lauding the enthusiasm and collaboration, Benjamin Züpao, the range officer of Liyai range stated that the participatory approach with direct community involvement by taking an oath to plant one tree per individual is the first of its kind in the region. The village authorities and youth members from the village joined the community plantation.
