Dimapur, Jan. 25: Kolkata centre of SLUSI in collaboration with Soil and Water Conservation Department, Kohima, organized three-day short course training programme from January 18 to 20, at the Directorate of Soil and Water Conservation Conference Hall, Kohima.
The training aimed towards development of trained manpower for effective utilization of soil and land resource database for Integrated Watershed Management Plan.
Commissioner & secretary to the Government of Nagaland, department of Soil & water Conservation, T. Nungsang Ao, was the chief guest for the training course.
The three-day training programme commenced with the welcome address by E. James, Joint Director of Department of Soil & Water Conservation. Dr. S. Roy Chowdhury, Head and Soil Survey Officer, Soil & Land use Survey of India, Kolkata centre, highlighted the need and objective of the training. The training programme covered different aspects of soil survey using remote sensing & GIS technique and use of soil & land resource database for catchment area treatment including one day field trip on soil profile study at Phesama village.
On the concluding day, January 20, Director, Soil & water conservation department, Imkongneken Ao, delivered valedictory speech.
A total of 25 field officers and staff participated in the training programme. Certificates were distributed to the trainees.
It may be mentioned that, Soil & Land Use Survey of India (SLUSI) being a premier soil survey organisation has been carrying out different types of soil survey throughout the country for more than four decades. As a result, a huge data base has been generated by the institution which could successfully be used for different developmental planning including Watershed Management by user department of different states.
The organization also imparts training to state government officials on “Soil and land resources data base for Integrated Watershed Management Planning,” with the request from different states to train the officials.
