DIMAPUR — The Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) under the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Phek, conducted training on rabies control in its conference hall on April 20.
The training was conducted with an objective to prevent and control deaths due to rabies in humans and achieve the global target ‘Rabies-Zero by 2030,” stated an update from the CMO office.
The training was conducted by Dr. Seyiekhrietuo Rutsa, paediatrician at District Hospital, Phek, for all the block medical officers of Phek district. Dr. Seyie explained that rabies is an infectious viral disease which is spread to human through bites and scratches usually via saliva of rabid animal. He added that the symptoms of rabies include pain at the site of the bite or scratch, fear of water (hydrophobia), restlessness, excessive salivation, convulsion and finally death.
He has shared on the ‘do’s and dont’s’ after post exposure prophylaxis, pre-exposure rabies vaccination, number of vaccination of dog etc. He has further emphasised on recording and reporting by all the health units.
