DIMAPUR — State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema, organised a two-day training programme on “Natural farming” on February 7 and 8.
During the course of the training, Prof. T Gohain, HoD of Agronomy, NU: SAS Medziphema campus; Prof. L Tongpang Longkumer (Agronomy dept.), and Dr. H Kalita, head of Regional Centre, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema, emphasised on natural farming, its principles, practices and advantages and prospect of natural farming in Nagaland, an update stated.
The resource persons encouraged use of local seeds and locally available natural fertilisers and synchronisation with nature.
“Also, it is considered as an agro-ecology based diversified farming system, which integrates crops, trees and livestock with functional biodiversity,” it stated.
The participants also visited Department of Agronomy, NU: SAS, Medziphema Campus and ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema.
In the valedictory programme chaired by Yezaho Swu, DPD SAMETI, feedback on the training was given by all the participants.
