Dimapur, Feb. 6 (EMN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kohima, in collaboration with Kenei Kro-u Kiruphema (KKK) conducted training on mushroom cultivation under the tribal sub-plan (TSP) in Peducha on February 5.
Delivering a keynote address, senior scientist and head of KVK Kohima, Dr. Ruokuovilie Mezhatsu, informed that mushroom cultivation is a low cost and fastest viable income generating activity among the horticulture entrepreneurship as the farmers could harvest within a short time. Stating that mushroom cultivation would not only help to generate immediate income but uplift the economic sustainability of the farmers, he urged all the participants to make the best use of the training and start generating income to become self-reliant.
In the technical session, hands-on training on cultivation of Oyster mushroom through paddy straw was conducted by master trainer Khekali Sema, assistant chief technical officer (Horticulture) at KVK, Kohima. Trainees were introduced to medicinal, nutritional and its economic benefits of mushroom cultivation.
The inaugural programme was chaired by KKK president, Neilhoulie Vielie, while the invocation was said by Neiviko-ü Suohumvü and the welcome address was delivered by Makolie Suosahie.
