Training on KRC underway in Dimapur

Dimapur, Nov. 22 (EMN): A four-day residential training programme on Key Resource Centre (KRC) for second batch began on November 21 at Hotel Moon Star in Dimapur. The training would cover the ethos of Jal Jeevan Mission for good water governance to achieve long-term sustainability.

A press release from the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), informed that the KRC is one of the key components under JJM. It added that University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya, has been assigned as the KRC under Jal Jeevan Mission for North East India under Ministry of Jal Shakti, government of India, for thematic areas to cover including knowledge and skill, community participation, women empowerment, leadership building among village council/ VWSC representatives in planning, implementation, operation and maintenance of the water supply infrastructure created.

In inauguration session, Dr. Nibedita Paul, PD of KRC JJM, welcomed all the participants and briefed on the objective of JJM. It added that Wati Thompson, SDO of Urban PHED, and Roland, chief chemist, attended the programme. They highlighted role of PHED and how they are implementing the scheme in Dimapur by giving importance on water testing through FTK.

The chief guest and retired secretary of PHED, Assam, PK Chakroborty, spoke on the importance of source sustainability and water quality monitoring system, while PP Sarma, KRC technical expert at USTM, discussed on role of third party monitoring.

Other dignitaries who attended the programme included Barnali Ghosh from Unicef, Rituparna Borkataki, KRC training coordinator; and Wonjano Odyou from state PHED, Kohima.

Participants included different WATSAN committees of Dimapur district along with village councils and ISA members of the district.
