Training on JJM project underway in Wokha

Officials, resource persons and participants on the inaugural day of the four-day training on community level participants under the JJM project in Wokha on Monday.

Dimapur, Oct. 17 (EMN): Training on community level participants under the JJM project for village council chairmen, VDB secretaries, and WATSAN members got underway at WDVCCA multipurpose building hall, Wokha, on Monday.

The four-day training, jointly organised by PHED department of Wokha division and Water & Sanitation Support Organisation (WSSO), is being imparted by Salt Lake Institute of Engineering & Management Ltd., (SLIEM), Kolkata, a DIPR report stated.

EAC Wokha, Yentinngbou, in his inaugural address lauded the PHED department for organising such programmes for the village functionaries to sensitise them about the importance of safe water and hygiene, conservation of water and to remind them about their roles and responsibilities how to maintain and operate after the completion of the project.

Informing that the government targets to provide safe and functional tap water connections by 2024, he urged all the stakeholders and village functionaries to extend support to the implementing agencies for successful completion of the project.

He also appealed to all to understand the value of the project/mission and take ownership and custody to make the project a sustainable one.

Gwatilo Tep, SE, PHED Dimapur, said the JJM project was started in the year 2019-2022 and the government has directed to finish the project by 2024. As per status report dated October 15, 2022, the state has achieved 52% of the project, he stated.

Congratulating Wokha district for achieving 71% functional household tap water connection within the district, he said the district is ahead of the overall state percentage and urged the department to continue with the same commitment and dedication to achieve the target within the stipulated time.

Resource person, SLIEM Skills, Dr. Biplab Ghosh, while giving a brief introduction about the purpose of imparting the training, said the aim is to sensitise the village functionaries about the concept of JJM and Har Ghar Jal.
