DIMAPUR — A district-level routine immunisation (RI) micro planning and RI strengthening training was held on Tuesday at conference hall of the chief medical officer (CMO) in Mokokchung with Dr. Sheila longkumer, SMO WHO; Dr. Longri Kichu, SPC UNICEF; Dr. Pangjung Pongen, SBC consultant UNICEF; and Imli Longkumer, RPO-UNDP from the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, as resource persons.

Delivering the welcome address, the CMO of Mokokchung, Dr. Kibangkumba, called upon the participants to be sincere and ensure that not even a single family is left out during RI micro planning.

Stressing on the status of immunisation in Mokokchung, Dr. Kibangkumba stated that inspite of creating awareness, vaccine refusal are still prevalent. He added that immunisation is the most cost effective health intervention for reduction of child mortality and morbidity against life threatening diseases.

During her power point presentation, Dr. Sheila Longkumer highlighted on the current status of RI. In case of Mokokchung district, she stated that population census was high but head count was less. She urged to ensure all children are captured during the headcount.

Discussing on the issues of micro planning, Dr. Sheila pointed out that Mokokchung needs quality communication plan. She added that headcount survey should be carried out twice a year and added that ASHAs should be trained to improve the quality of immunisation services.

Topics on high risk areas, eVIN and UWIN, cold chain and logistics management were also discussed.

Participants were trained to fill up RI micro planning forms during the practical session.

The training was attended by medical officers, ANMs, CHO, DPM, BPM, DCM, BAC, urban consultant and partners namely WHO, UNICEF and UNDP.
