Training on handling of Covid-19 dead body conducted in districts

Dimapur, April 30 (EMN): Covid-19 dead body management was conducted at the Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital in Wokha, Mokokchung and Tuensang.

According to an update from Wokha district media officer, Dr. Wemeri Khutsoh, senior medical officer was the resource person for the training programme held at the Dr. Motsuo Memorial Hospital on Thursday.

He spoke on the management of  Covid-19 dead body — procedure of disposal of dead body, handling and transportation of dead body, management at burial ground and precautionary measures to be taken while handling such cases.

Session on bio medical waste management session, Dr. Nzan Lotha said that guidelines should be followed in the disposal of personal protection equipment after coming in contact with Covid-19 case to avoid the spread.

Personnel from State Disaster Response Force, police, Wokha Town Council, doctors from 24 Assam Rifles and medical department staff [participated  in the training.

In Mokokchung, the training was conducted according to the Covid-19 dead body management guidelines, district’s CMO office updated.

The  training was given to the staff of PWD Mechanical ,Home Guards & Civil Defenceand Mokokchung Municipal Council in the conference hall of the Chief Medical Office.

Resource person, Dr. Aonungdok, epidemiologist gave a powerpoint presentation on standard precautions to be followed while handling and disposal of the dead bodies of the Covid-19  suspects or confirmed cases.

Participants were also taught  on the origin, transmission, risk groups, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment,  and control measures of the Covid-19.

A short video on proper hand washing and guidelines on PPE was shown and demonstration on use of mask and gloves disposal was also trained.

Information, education and communication materials on donning and doffing of  PPE were  distributed to the participants.

In Tuensang, resource person, Dr. Senilo Magh, medical officer trained the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team on Covid-19, donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipement, and management of Covid-19 dead body.

The programme attended by about 15  trainees was conducted on Thursday at the district hospital’s conference hall. Medical Superintendent Dr. Zathungwas also present during 5the training session.
