Training on Covid-19 preparedness held for doctors

Dimapur, March 16 (EMN): With the novel coronavirus spreading across the globe, a training programme on the virus was conducted for doctors under public and private health institutions at CMO’s Conference Hall, Dimapur on March 16.

An update from DPMU Dimapur informed that resource person of the workshop, district surveillance officer Dr. Imtiwabong highlighted the global and national epidomology of the Covid-19.

“The training covered various topics to contain and control the spread of Covid-19 such as risk assessment, cluster containment strategy and community surveillance, risk communications and community engagement, information management, infection prevention and control-standard precautions and additional precautions, environmental cleaning, disinfection and bio-medical waste management, demonstration of donning and doffing of PPE, laboratory surveillance and clinical case management,” the press release read.

The preparedness level of the district was also comprehensively reviewed by doctors of both the government and private health institutions after the training. The district authority lamented the shortage of ambulances and ventilators with the district health authority, the statement read.

“For the safety of all patients, the private hospitals were also requested to identify an isolation room in their respective health institutions so as to manage a suspected case before referring to the District Hospital. Training materials were distributed so that the trainees can further train other health workers in their respective institutions,” it added.

It went on to inform that a WhatsApp group for medical officers of both private and public sectors in the district had being created for efficient co-ordination and updates related to Covid-19. Similar training on Covid-19 preparedness will also be held for health workers viz BPMs, CHOs, BACs and those medical officers who missed Monday’s training, it added.
