Training on census of water bodies and mini-irrigation underway

Kohima Sep. 18 (EMN): A two-day state level training-cum-workshop for conduct of 6th Minor Irrigation Census and Census of Water Bodies started on Tuesday at the office of the chief engineer, Water Resources department.
Razouvolie Kelio, superintendent engineer and nodal officer, stated that the programme was sponsored by the ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, (stat) wing, government of India.

He mentioned that the central ministry has taken up a new subject, ‘Census of Water Bodies’, throughout the country with reference to the year 2017-18. He also added that the objective of the censuses was to build a sound and reliable database in the minor irrigation sector for effective planning and policymaking. Likewise, Nagaland state is also making all necessary preparation to launch the 6th MIC and census of water bodies, he said.

He also stated that the department as the nodal agency for conduct of the 6th minor irrigation census and census of water bodies has so far participated in two workshops namely: national workshop on March 16 at New Delhi and regional workshop on July 10 and 11th at Gangtok, Sikkim.

“The census operation of the 6th MIC & CWBS will commence throughout the state spreading over 11 districts, 74 RD blocks under rural sector spreading over 1100 villages in the state and 32 town municipalities and councils under urban sector consisting of 361 urban wards involving all the divisional engineers, SDO, JE, sectional officers, sectional assistants and other stakeholders as district level officers and block level officers of the censuses,” he stated.
