Capacity building training for Multi Tasking Staff held at Nagaland Civil Secretariat to sensitise staff on discipline and service rules.

DIMAPUR — A capacity building training for supervisors, sardars, and multi-tasking staff (MTS) including peons, chowkidars, sweepers, and malis (batch 3) was held at the conference hall, Nagaland Civil Secretariat, on Monday.
The training is organised by the Secretariat Administration Branch “B”, Home Department, Government of Nagaland, in collaboration with Living for Environment (LIFE) NGO, a DIPR report stated.
Addressing the participants, Secretary (Home), Elizabeth Ngullie stated that organising the training in the very first month of the year was intended to sensitise and update MTS personnel on office procedures and the importance of maintaining discipline and adhering to established rules within the Secretariat.
She observed that in a rapidly changing world, continuous training is essential for everyone, including multi tasking staff to remain updated and enhance their skills. Highlighting the Nagaland Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1967, which regulate disciplinary matters, and the Nagaland Government Servants Conduct Rules, 1968, which prescribe ethical behaviour and professionalism for state employees, she said that all government servants are guided by these rules and must abide by them.

Emphasising the role and responsibilities of MTS personnel, she noted that they are required to perform various tasks such as cleaning, photocopying, maintaining records, operating office equipment, and assisting in general office upkeep, and therefore must diligently carry out all duties assigned to them.
She further stressed the importance of safeguarding government property, advising staff to use office assets responsibly and refrain from taking any government property home.
Ngullie cautioned them to exercise extra vigilance while using electrical appliances, citing incidents of fire accidents in certain departments.
She went on to state that working in one of the largest establishments in Nagaland carries significant responsibility. Therefore, employees must perform their duties sincerely, strictly follow rules and maintain discipline, thereby setting a positive example for others to emulate. She also emphasised the importance of wearing uniforms during office hours for easy identification.
Additionally, she informed that all MTS personnel must fill up their APAR forms annually, as timely submission would facilitate smoother processing of records and ease consideration during promotion.
Resource person Niksungla, founder-chairman of Living for Environment (LiFE), imparted practical knowledge to the trainees on modern sanitation practices, effective waste management, proper use and maintenance of cleaning equipment, workplace etiquette, personal hygiene, safety measures, workplace discipline, and service standards.
She informed that the initiative seeks to strengthen cleanliness standards and promote a disciplined and professional work culture within the Secretariat premises by equipping frontline staff with updated practices and service-oriented approaches.
The training sessions, which commenced on February 16, will continue till February 26 at the conference hall of the Civil Secretariat, from 10 am to 11 am.
