Dimapur, June 10 (EMN): ICAR – Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research (DCFR), Bhimtal, in collaboration with the department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, government of Nagaland, conducted trainings and input distributions in Lotsu village under Sanis block and Renthan village under Bhandari block in Wokha district on June 4 and 5.

The programme was initiated to improve the livelihood and income generation of the economically backward villagers through fish farming activities, stated a DIPR report. The objective of the programme was to create awareness through training and distribution of fish farming inputs to increase the productivity of the fish farmers.

In both the villages, Neitho-o Kuotsu, joint director of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, highlighted the objective of the programme. He thanked the director of ICAR-DCFR and his team of scientists for their constant support and assistance.

Dr. RS Haldar, chief technical officer of ICAR-DCFR, Bhimtal, encouraged the villagers to take up fish farming on scientific lines to supplement their income.

It stated that Kuotsu and Dr. Haldar spoke on various aspects of fish farming and held a comprehensive interaction with the fish farmers. The farmers were made aware about the benefits of integrated fish farming and how it could be used for generating income.

The programme concluded with distribution of 2500 kg carp feed, hand nets and cast nets to 25 fish farmers each from Lotsu and Renthan villages.
