Training for farmers held in Kiphire, Mon

Dimapur, Aug. 24 (EMN): Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) under Khonsa block in Kiphire district conducted a training cum demonstration programme at Kiuro, Khonsa, and Tsurevons villages on August 20 and 21 with the participation of 48 farmers.
The training programmes were chaired by Takutoshi Jamir, ATM of Khonsa block, along with his colleague Merennungba Imchen, ATM, while the resource persons were Merennungba Imchen and Takutoshi Jamir.

The training mainly focussed on “Integrated Pest Management (IPM),” “Post harvest on maize” and demonstration on “Kidney beans (Kholar) farming.”

During the training, farmers were advised to use naturally available resources to combat insect pests such as parasitoids, predators and pathogens. For cultivation of kidney beans (Kholar), resource persons stated that rainfall should be 60 to 150mm annually adding it could be grown on wide range of soils from light sandy to heavy clay soils.

Farmers were also advised to treat the seeds with Thiram @ 4gm per kg adding beans should stored at 12 -14% moisture content post harvest. As heat and humidity cause deterioration in quality, farmers are advised to store the beans in cool, dark and dry place.

One farm school teacher was selected in Tsurevon village and mobilisation of farmers was done in five villages.
In a related programme, ATMA Tobu block under Mon district conducted a training and demonstration for SHG members and farmers on August 23 and 24 at Wangshu village.

Training on package and practices of yard-long bean was conducted by Tia, ATM. Demonstration on use of rodenticides for pest management was conducted by Jungshi, BTM, while application of Bordeaux mixture was conducted by Diezelhouno, ATM.
