DIMAPUR — Nagaland Governor La. Ganesan on Thursday stressed on the need for teachers to integrate modern technology with education, saying that they should facilitate student’s self-learning by enabling them to search the right resources.

Addressing the gathering at the 11th graduation day of Modern Institute of Teachers Education (MITE), Kohima, the governor said the teachers expected to be well informed and keep themselves abreast with the latest trends, according to an update from PRO Raj Bhavan.

While congratulating the future teachers (students) who have successfully completed the course, as well as the college management and staff, parents and the community, he said the prospective teachers of the state should rise to transform the system as envisioned in the National Education Policy.

He also said Nagaland needs trained resources in every corner to ensure quality education and that teachers can be good facilitators only when they are perpetual learners.

“True education is not achieved by the mere transaction of curriculum but by empowering the students to dream as well as achieve,” he said while asserting education as a tool for development.

The general atmosphere of educational institutions in Nagaland is quite friendly and congenial for learning. This combined with the commitment and the pursuit for academic and professional excellence will accelerate socio-economic development in the state, he said.

While pointing out that teachers are expected to serve with honour and dignity, Ganesan said “one of the problems facing our state is that not all teachers are willing to serve in the interior districts of the state and also the problems of proxy-teaching”.

He also reminded the teachers about their role even outside of the school to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”.

Sharing how the state has developed through the years and that development cannot be brought about by fund allocations alone, he urged everyone to ‘create a conducive environment for development, which include peace and the change in attitude of people’.

The Governor also handed over the certificates to Nagaland University rank holders in the presence of Chairperson of Modern Society, Kaisa Mao; Principal of MITE, Dr. Kate Dandesh Kumar; Managing Director, Pelee Hekha; and members of Managing Board and faculty of the college.

The principal of MITE acknowledged the governor for sparing his valuable time for the students and congratulated the graduating students, while urging them to realise their potential and contribute towards nation-building.
