Kohima, Oct. 19 (EMN):
Principal Director of School Education, Thavaseelan K, on Wednesday said that trained teachers will ensure a robust educational structure in the state.

He was addressing the 10th graduation day of the Modern Institute of Teacher Education (MITE) in Kohima.

‘As a professionally trained graduate, you have immense potential to transform the school education ecosystem in the state,’ he said while urging them to put good use of the knowledge and skills they had gained in the past two years.

He said the knowledge acquired along the way will play a vital role in ensuring effective teaching-learning processes irrespective of the institution they join.

Thavaseelan told the gathering that graduating is not the end but the beginning.

‘Being an effective teacher does not mean one remains stagnant with their skills because what one thinks would be relevant to students today would cease to be relevant tomorrow,’ he said while stressing that ‘it is extremely critical that one keeps updating their skills and knowledge as one navigates through their professional career’.

Another aspect of the school education ecosystem is the need for teachers to pick up administrative skills which are lacking among teachers. It is a critical skill that would be useful as they move on to the higher-ups and are faced with more responsibilities, he pointed out.

The officer said that it is the duty of the teachers to be able to figure out the individual psychology and adapt the learning and teaching process to the students.

‘The ability to figure out different type of students, and adapt teaching-learning methods to the specific needs of the students is very critical and plays a key role across the world,’ he added.

While it is mandatory for teachers to have a Bachelor of Education degree (to take up teaching profession), the officer expressed hope that the state-trained teachers would change the face of student learning.

‘There are plenty of issues as far as school education is concerned and teacher’s professional development would solve a lot of these concerns,’ he added.

Principal of MITE, Dr. Kate Dandesh Kumar shared that the institute has the tradition of producing toppers every year. This year, there were 13 toppers from the institute and achieved 100% pass percentage.

Congratulating the students, the principal told them to reflect on their achievements and celebrate with the close ones who supported their journey.

Nagaland University’s first rank holder, Vipeni K Zhimo, gave the graduation speech and Litsala Y Anar Sangtam shared a success story, while first-semester students and Phamlong L Konyak presented a song each.

Certificates were given away to the 13 Nagaland University rank holders.
