Traditional games mark 2nd day of Thuwuni Festival

Dimapur, Nov. 16 (EMN): The second day of the 4th edition of Thuwuni festival at Pughoboto town on Nov. 16 saw much fun-fare with traditional games competitions, song presentations by artistes from mainland India and Thailand and other activities. Director of land resource department, Hoto Yeptho, who graced the celebration, acknowledged the organisers and also shared on the importance of the hornbill festival and the Thuwuni festival.
Different villages under Pughoboto sub-division participated in the indigenous and traditional games competitions on the second day which was made more lively by the rendition of a Thai folk music by Prajen Panantang, an artiste from Thailand.
In the traditional game of ‘spear kicking’ competition, Veqheho from Mukalimi who kicked 6 ft. 9 inches took the first position while the second place went to Toka from Shesulimi.

In ‘Alao’ game competition, Nihoshe and Vitolu from Iqhanumi village bagged the 1st and 2nd position respectively; the third position was bagged by Viqheho, from Mukalimi village.

Other games competition included were basket making, bag weaving, traditional female game, greased pole climbing etc. All the winners during the three day festival will be awarded cash prizes.

Meanwhile, on day-one, the 1st female Indian Idol, Sourabee Debbarma performed a Hindi song on at outdoor stadium, Natsumi, the DIPR stated.
The 3-day Thuwuni festival-cum-mini hornbill will culmuniate on Saturday, November 17.
