Toyota to present Hornbill Music Festival 2024
Ruopfuzhano Whiso Named Festival Ambassador
KOHIMA — In the lead-up to the 25th edition of the Hornbill Festival, Toyota has announced its role as the presenter of the Hornbill Music Festival 2024.
This marks the third consecutive year that Toyota is presenting the music festival, which is set to begin on December 1 alongside the broader cultural celebrations at Kisama Heritage Village.
The announcement was made during a presser held at the Toyota Showroom in Kohima, on Thursday where Y Vikheho Swu, managing director of Okusa Toyota.
Swu was accompanied by Kei Okuda, project manager of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd. (TKM) and Ruopfuzhano Whiso, the fourth runner-up of Miss Universe India 2024, who will be the official ambassador for the Toyota Hornbill Festival 2024.
Swu highlighted Toyota’s commitment to supporting the festival and the talents of Naga youth, noting that the company’s sponsorship aligns with the vision of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and advisor to the CM, Abu Metha, who have both worked to uplift local youth.
Swu also acknowledged the efforts of Theja Meru, chairman of the Task Force for Music and Arts (TAFMA), and his team, who have promoted Naga musicians on various platforms worldwide.
Expressing appreciation to Minister of Tourism, Temjen Imna Along and his department’s inclusive approach, Swu announced that Toyota has sponsored a permanent structure – a three-storeyed building at the Heritage Village in Kisama to commemorate the festival’s 25th edition. The new space will be managed jointly by Toyota and TAFMA, providing a year-round platform to promote local talent.
“This facility should not be viewed purely as a business endeavor,” he said while adding that the new facility will serve as a place to showcase and support youth talent throughout the year.
He added that Ruopfuzhano Whiso will represent the Toyota Hornbill Festival 2024 as its Toyota’s ambassador.
“She is beautiful, intelligent and talented — an embodiment of the aspirations of Naga youth,” Swu said, highlighting Toyota’s belief in her as a role model.
Whiso expressed her enthusiasm for her role, saying, “Music connects and unites people.” She shared her excitement for the festival, emphasising the importance of supporting local musical talent.
The Hornbill Music Festival is expected to draw music lovers from across different states and countries, celebrating the rich artistic heritage of Nagaland through a diverse lineup of performances.
