Torture of Hornbill in Wokha caught on camera; authorities say investigation on

Wokha, June 12 (EMN): A video of an endangered Great Indian Hornbill being tortured before being killed in Wokha district has sparked outrage after it was circulated on social media.
Wildlife Warden Dimapur, Tokaho Kinimi told Eastern Mirror that an investigation is on and assured that action would be initiated on the culprits involved in capturing and torturing the bird. He said they will be booked under relevant sections of Wildlife Protection Act.
Killing of the Great Indian Hornbill comes with heavy penalties as the bird falls under the Wildlife Protection Act Schedule-1 species.
In the video, a woman can be overheard saying not to circulate the video, and informing of the consequences.
The Forest department has been conducting various awareness programmes but due to ignorance on many occasions hunting, capturing and killing of wild animals continue to be reported in Nagaland.
