Dimapur, Nov. 3 (EMN): Steam is a digital video-game distribution service by Valve and is currently one of the largest digital gaming marketplaces in the world. First launched in 2003 as a standalone software client for Valve, the platform has now grown into a giant social gaming site where users can buy, play and discuss games via Steam Chat. It boasts over 30,000 games in its cloud-based gaming library and more than 21,000 items that include software, downloadable content (DLC), and videos.

Steam had a total of over 90 million active users in April 2019 alone and at the time of writing this report, it had more than 21 million concurrent users. The games below are subject to change due to shifts in concurrent player counts; however, we will be looking at the ten of the most played games and games that regularly have a high count of concurrent players with the data from ‘SteamDB’ and Steam stats.

1. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Drawing in nearly 1 million players every single day, CS:GO is the undisputed number one game in the Steam library. Even after its release 17 years ago, the game still continues to be at the top of the steam charts. At the time of writing this report, the game had over 800,000 concurrent players.

2. Dota 2

Another Valve title, Dota 2 is another game that consistently draws more than 500,000 players (occasionally spiking to 1 million from time to time) from all over the world. At the time of writing this report, it had more than 600,000 concurrent players.

3. Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds

At one point, Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) was one of the biggest games in the world. It still holds the record for the most concurrent players on steam peaking at 3,236,027 in January 2018. Though its player base has waned over the years, thanks to newer battle royale titles, it still manages to draw in over 300,000 players every day.

4. Among Us

Helped by the viral videos from popular streamers on Twitch, Among Us has become one of the most popular games in 2020. Although the game itself was released two years ago, however, the game exploded onto the gaming scene after Twitch streamers realised it was the perfect game for streaming whilst under quarantine due to the global pandemic. It consistently draws over 200,000 concurrent players on Steam every day.

5. Grand Theft Auto V

Considered by many as one of the best single-player games on PC, Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V is another popular game in the Steam library. The game draws more than 120,000 concurrent players at any given day and with updates for the PS5 and Xbox Series X already announced, the game will only continue to attract more players.

6. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege

This online tactical shooter video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal still continues to be one of the most played games on Steam. Released in 2015, the game is still making records with Ubisoft announcing earlier this year that the game has over 60 million registered players across platforms. The game also hit its record peak high of more than 198,567 concurrent players on steam just on March this year, according to the data from steam charts. With Ubisoft announcing plans for PlayStation 5 and Xbox series X/S and cross-platform play, the numbers may only go higher in the coming months.

7. Rocket League

Although the game is not officially available on Steam, it still continues to draw over 100,000 players every day on Steam. A vehicular football video game developed and published by Psyonix, Rocket League is a high-octane game that has kept us entertained since it first launched in 2015. Exclusively available on the Epic Games Store, the players who own a copy can continue to play with the same updates issued to the Epic Games Store version.

8. Team Fortress 2

Consistently drawing in over 70,000 players per day, Team Fortress 2 is another game that is very popular in Steam. The multiplayer first-person shooter game is another free-to-play Valve title that has a high player count and doesn’t require a monster PC to run it. Team Fortress 2 reached its highest player peak ever (since 2012) after Valve released a major update on Oct. 1 with a total of 130,548 players logging into the game within 24 hours. The game had around 75,000 concurrent players on Steam at the time of writing this report.

9. ARK: Survival Evolved

If you like dinosaurs, survival games and base-building mechanics then ARK: Survival Evolved is the game for you. Despite its issues ranging from lag to bugged gameplay, the game has a high player count on Steam. The game peaked with over 150,000 concurrent players on Steam earlier this year, and it continues to draw more than 60,000 players every day.

10. Rust

With 84% positive feedback out of the 379,311 user reviews on Steam, Rust is one of the best games on Steam. Rust is a first-person, open-world, massively-multiplayer survival game by Facepunch Studios that will endear to players who want a mix of survival and crafting. Drawing in about 70,000 players every day, Rust is another Steam game that keeps on churning high player counts and all things considered, it seems the game isn’t dead but thriving.
