Dimapur, June 23 (EMN): Minister of PWD (Housing and Mechanical) and DPDB chairman of Mokokchung, Tongpang Ozukum, visited the proposed site for construction of 2x10MVA 33/11 kV sub-station at Mokokchung power house in Salangtem ward and Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) dumping site on June 23.
During the visitation, the officials from the power department apprised the minister about the delay in implementing the scheme under North East Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP), which was funded by the government of Nagaland and World Bank, due to some issue with the landowner, an update from the press secretary to the minister, Imliyanger Aier stated.
The sub-station is also part of the scheme intended to upgrade power system requirement particularly for Mokokchung town.
The officials have conveyed to the minister that the above scheme is coming to a closure. The officials pointed out that during the last review meeting, the secretary, Ministry of Power, government of India, had categorically stated that the state government should resolve and start the work without delay, failing which the particular project would be abandoned since the other sites under the World Bank programme are getting completed in other districts, except for Mokokchung.
The minister hoped that the department and the landowner would come to an understanding at the earliest as the public of Mokokchung town as the facility was aimed at catering the power supply requirement for Mokokchung town.
The minister further urged all the stakeholders to come to an agreement and work together in the greater interest of the people and of Mokokchung as it would be a tremendous loss for the citizens of Mokokchung for all time to come, if it fails to materialise.
Later, the minister inspected the MMC dumping site to assess the preventive counter measures related to environmental hazards in the area.
The minister was accompanied by officials from the district administration, representatives of All Ward Union Mokokchung, NDPP officials and 24 Angetyongpang AC Independent party officials.
