[dropcap]M[/dropcap]aterialism has immensely affected the intelligentsia too. This is the bleak side of our human story today. The aam aadmi or the hoi polloi have no guardians to look up to and our story is one that is heading for a doom-spot.
In the words of Justice Krishna Iyer, today ‘the world is drought of human values caused by corrupt counter culture and mafia in power’. According to him, this farce can be only arrested by ‘sublime principles’. Justice Krishna Iyer has stressed the need for developing a positive culture of mass action through non-violence.Purshotttam Singh Verma, a noted scholar from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi put up a question something like this, “Who can bring about the cultural revolutionary when the intelligentsia and judicial minded people themselves are jittery and uncertain, and the mugging mafia and the affluent lobby are vaccinated against law and the terrorism of the law and the lawless destroy the nation’s integrity?” According to Mr. Verma, such question arises in the minds of all right thinking people who feel utterly helpless in the prevailing situation.
Today, the term integrity seems to be found only in dictionary. A person with integrity has no place in this rat-racing world. This is because of the moral decay of our society. The over-emphasis on wealth and power has been the origin of this moral crisis, according to distinguish educationist P N Mathur. This factor has made man more aggressive. Noted theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking said, forget doomsday asteroids, global plagues and super volcanoes, we are facing a much more immediate threat — and it is our own behavior (aggression). Mr. Hawking said that it may have had survival advantage in caveman days, to get more food, territory or a partner with whom to reproduce, but now it threatens to destroy us all.
So, the most vital tool to thwart this ail in order to save mankind is to update the education system to the need of the situation by giving strong emphasis on human values.
