DIMAPUR— Civil society organisations, government officials, police and representatives of villages under Tizit sub-division, Mon district, in a joint meeting held on July 10, passed a declaration to wage ‘War against drugs.’
The joint meeting led by the council chairmen, church leaders and government officials, was held at Konyak Union office, Tizit, an official update stated.
In the meeting, deputy commandant of 6th NAP Tizit, Chubah Chang, said that catching and identifying drug peddlers and abusers is just the first step. Chang said rehabilitation and bringing them into the mainstream is an important process where not only the authorities and families, but civil societies and organisations can play a vital role.
He urged the gathering to seek legal opinions and technical advice while tackling such cases and also assured all possible help from the police side.
The president of Konyak Union, Tizit unit, while highlighting the challenges and responsibilities of the drug menace in the area, called for collective effort and sincere implementation of the resolutions adopted during the meeting.
The presidents of Tizit Area Students Union, KNSK Tizit unit, inspector (Excise department), chairman of Tizit Area Chairman’s Association and president of GB’s Association Tizit Area, also spoke on the occasion.
Besides the declaration of the ‘War against Drugs’, the meeting also adopted other resolution, the release stated.
