Kohima, July 18 (EMN): Observing the crisis in the present government and the claims and the counter claims exchanged between the leaders, Officiating Chief Electoral Officer [CEO], N Moa Aier asserted that the time is ripe enough to try clean election and time for the general public to call ‘spade a spade.’
Emphasising on the impending need of clean election in the state during the film release of ‘Nana- a tale of us’ projecting the issues of election in Nagaland, Aier maintained that either the sitting elected members re-dedicate their services or the new ‘would be’ leaders may enter the fray with a resolution to serve the people truthfully.
He expressed hope that the core principle and message of clean election have been and would be put in practice in the Presidential Election, Vice-Presidential Election, Bye-Election in 10 Northern Angami-I A/C.
At the same time, Aier also informed that side-by-side, the department is conducting special drive to enrol new voters of 18-21 years and for deletion of expired, transferred and duplicate/multiple names to purify the electoral roll.
This exercise, he said would be followed by Summary Revision of electoral roll 2018 tentatively from October 1, 2017. Hence, he asserted that everyone should take this opportunity to purify the electoral roll, which is the basis for conduct of clean election of all future elections starting from the general election 2018.
Meanwhile, he appreciated the Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) who has declared for clean election in all the 7 A/Cs in Zunheboto district and doing very well; Langpangkong Range Youth has declared for clean election in their 3 A/Cs within their jurisdiction and the Chakhesang Clean Election Movement is also doing well in Phek.
While stating his hope that the Aos also declare the same in all the 10 A/Cs, Aier said "in fact, it will be good if all the tribes declare the same in all their respective jurisdiction making all the 60 A/Cs clean election A/Cs."
Aier fervently expressed hope that the concerted efforts of all will bear fruit of which will be beneficial for each and every citizen of Nagaland.
While challenging all responsible citizens to be wiser in exercising their right to choose their leaders through free and fair elections, chairman, Aoyimti Village Council said "until and unless we, the electorates are determined to put an end to our corruption, we will never see the birth of good governance".
He also appreciated the churches for taking initiatives and responsibility in the ‘clean election’ drive and asserted that this movement should be supported by every right thinking citizen and display the message in various forms possible to educate and eradicate the corruption.
