TikTok beats Facebook to become most downloaded app of 2020
Dimapur, August 10 (EMN): Chinese video-sharing platform TikTok has surpassed Facebook to become the most downloaded app in the world in 2020, according to digital analytics company App Annie.
The report, a global survey of app downloads in 2020, showed TikTok clinching the top spot from Facebook for the most downloaded app of 2020, improving from fourth position in 2019.
A similar report from Nikkei Asia cites the same App Annie data and it is confirmed that TikTok has surpassed Facebook to clinch the top spot. However, the rest of the top five was dominated by Facebook-owned apps including Facebook Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp.

Other apps that made it to the top ten list include Snapchat, Telegram, Likee, Pinterest and Twitter.
Despite former US President Donald Trump’s attempt to ban TikTok in America and the Modi-led BJP government banning the Chinese app in India citing “national security” reasons, the popular short video-sharing platform has risen to new heights since its parent company ByteDance launched the international version of the app in 2017.
Current US President Joe Biden has withdrawn Mr Trump’s executive order in January of this year. However, the app still remains banned in India and can only be downloaded unofficially from third-party app stores like TapTap.
