Thunderstorm leaves many families homeless in Mokokchung

Mokokchung, Sep. 21 (EMN):
Thunderstorm accompanied by strong winds swept across Saringyim and its adjoining villages in Mokokchung district on the night of September 20, causing destruction of property and leaving many families homeless.

Source from Saringyim informed that at around 10.30 pm, the thunderstorm accompanied by strong winds uprooted ‘hundreds of trees, utility poles and damaged houses’.

Many families are homeless and power supply to the village has been snapped, he said.

“When the villagers woke up this morning, it was a chaotic scene as almost all the streets were blocked by the fallen trees and electric poles,” said the source.

The EAC of Longchem, Athrong, informed that seven houses were completely damaged, 15 houses partially damaged, and 16 farms and plantations were damaged at Saringyim. He also informed that there were reports of ‘minor incidents’ in the adjoining villages.
