A thunderstorm damages a transformer, causing a nearly six-hour power outage across Kohima and prompting temporary load shedding measures.
DIMAPUR — A thunderstorm-triggered transformer failure disrupted electricity supply across Kohima and surrounding areas on Friday afternoon, leaving several localities without power for nearly six hours.
In a press release, the Power department informed that the outage was caused by damage to a power transformer at the 132/33/11 kV Receiving and Sub-Station in Kohima during the thunderstorm.
“While the department is making all-out effort to restore power supply by making alternate arrangements at the earliest, during such temporary arrangement, the department may be compelled to restrict the load and as such load shedding may be increased,” it stated.
The department appealed to the public to bear with the inconvenience and cooperate while restoration work continues.
