Thunderstorm in Manipur kills three women, injured over 40 including students

IMPHAL, April 15 (EMN):  A windstorm in Manipur on Monday claimed lives of three women, injured over 40 people including students and render homeless.

Two women were crushed to death after a house collapsed in New Saiton area of Churachandpur district while another woman, who ran a tea shop in the Wari area in Kakching district, was killed when a banyan tree fell on her.

The deceased have been identified as Nemden (74) of Salemjang village and Chinkholhai (50).

Another woman identified as Y Nungsitombi (56) of Kakching Senapati Leikai village passes away when a tree fell on her tea stall at Wairi area under Kakching district.

About 30 students were injured when a school building in Kwakta collapsed. They were rushed to a hospital.

Age old home at Kumbi and creative school building at Kwakta and school for persons with disabilities at Thanga in Bishnupur district were badly damaged.

Senior district official of Churachandpur district said many houses were damaged in the district.

Though the north-eastern states of India have been witnessing moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers for the last two days, Manipur had been experiencing warming temperatures.

The state recorded maximum temperature of 39.4 Celsius Degree on Sunday. But the day’s short spell of rain brought down the temperature to 34 Celsius Degree on Monday.
