Dimapur, Jan. 19 (EMN): Kohima Police personnel manning Khuzama check gate, during routine checking of vehicles, intercepted a Maruti Vitara Breeza bearing registration No. GJ08BN3810 and recovered 15 packets of suspected opium weighing one kilogram each on January 18.
A police report issued PRO of DEF Kohima informed that the consignment was found concealed in an empty space of the vehicle door. It added that two persons identified as Suresh Kumar and Raju Ram have been arrested in the connection. It further added that a case under NDPS Act 1985 has been registered for further investigation.
In a separate incident, Dimapur district Excise personnel, during its routine frisking of vehicles, intercepted an Imphal-bound truck and confiscated a total of 726 cases of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) on January 17.
An update from the superintendent of Excise and Prohibition, T Arilong Longkumer, stated that the consignment was found concealed under furniture and household goods. He informed that one person identified as Aboy Poumai (27) and resident of Senapati in Manipur was arrested and booked under relevant sections of the NLTP Act 1989.
Following several instances of seizures of IMFL from goods laden trucks along the NH-29, he informed that surveillance measures against such illicit trafficking of contraband has been heightened at crucial checkpoints by the Excise department.
