Threat to Manipur’s division posed by state government —Therie
DIMAPUR — Former NPCC president and minister K Therie stated on Wednesday that the threat of Manipur’s division is posed by the Manipur government, not by any neighbours or foreigners.
In a press note, Therie said that the state government has completely failed to calculate or read the impact of launching ethnic cleansing of Kuki-Zo and Christians, and in view of the disgusting episode spanning over 110 days, it is not possible to restore trust and confidence.
“Without trust and confidence, there can be no family,” he said.
He said that with the Manipur state government refusing to own moral responsibility coupled with having no formula to restore peace and understanding, the only option left to thinkers is to oblige the demand of the Kuki-Zo community for a separate administration, which means either union territory or statehood.
He said that minorities cannot continue to live under suppression, and a brutish majority violating human rights and religious rights is not acceptable in a democracy.
He maintained that since feelings of hate and mistrust have replaced affection and respect, all right-thinking people who wish to restore human rights and peace can only think of a separate administration.
