[dropcap]C[/dropcap]ommunity leaders in Dimapur have risen in support of the popular people’s movement, the Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation, after another armed underground group threatened the leaders of the organizations.
The community leaders have made clear that the threat against the ACAUT organization is a threat to the community leaderships of the colonies in Dimapur as the latter are also members of the former.
The colony leaders also questioned the Government of Nagaland and its agencies why they were giving a free hand to the underground groups to terrorize the lives of the citizens for so long.Dimapur Urban Colony Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCCF) on Friday vehemently condemned the threat against the Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation by the underground group NSCN (K).
The local community leaders issued a statement on Friday through its media cell.
The colony chairmen termed the threat to ACAUT as a threat to all the members of the colony leaders. The DUCCCF made clear that the Naga Nagas are “no fools to be cowed down by the threats of those using AK-47 or bombs for extortion and intimidation for their selfish gains in the guise of sovereignty.”
The ACAUT is a citizen’s movement in Nagaland that is fighting against extortion and illegal taxation, and asserting the economic rights of citizens in the state.
“Nagas are no fools to be cowed down by the threats of those using AK-47 or bombs for extortion and intimidation for their selfish gains in the guise of sovereignty,” stated the press release issued by the DUCCCF.
The federation cautioned the group not to resort to such acts of terror as it was ‘alien to the Naga culture.’
The organization also minced no words for both the government and underground groups. Stating that as the patience of public is running thin fighting against extortion and unabated taxation in the hands of both state and non-state actors, the DUCCCF stated.
The DUCCCF then questioned the government of Nagaland as to why it was treating the innocent Naga public as second-class citizens and giving free hand to the underground groups to terrorize the public.
“Before the wrath of Naga public falls upon such anti social element the government needs to wake up and deal with the situation firmly,” the community leaders stated in no uncertain terms.
