Thousands attend I-Day celebrations in Dimapur

Despite monsoon drizzle playing spoilsports intermittently, thousands of people gathered at DDSC Stadium Dimapur to witness the 68th Independence Day celebrations this morning.
Addressing the mammoth gathering as chief guest after unfurling the National Flag, Minister for Social Welfare Kiyanilie Peseyie called upon the people to strive for excellence towards making Nagaland a progressive and prosperous State.
The chief guest took the Rastriya Salute which was accompanied by singing of the National Anthem and inspected the parade contingents.
March past by various contingents, cultural shows, exhibition of stalls by farmers and football match between Dimapur district football veterans and Peren veterans were some of the highlights of the programmes. Altogether 18 parade contingents took part in the march past which was led by parade commander Tulakha K Sumi, Dy. SP (Traffic), DEF, Dimapur and 2nd Parade commander Neihulie Metha (Reserve Inspector) DEF, Dimapur.
The contingents which took part in the march past included CRPF 173 Bn., DEF Dimapur, Nagaland Home Guards, 13th NAP (IR) Bn., 15th NAP (IR) Mahila, Excise Directorate, NCC (Dimapur Govt. College), Greenwood Hr. Sec. School Dimapur, NCC(Pilgrims School, Dimapur), Hindustan Ranger, Scouts and Guides of Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School, Zakiesatuo
Memorial School, Corner Stone Hr. Sec. School, Christian Hr. Sec. School, Hindustan Scout, Ex-Serviceman, 29th Assam Rifle Parade Band Party and Nagaland Home Guard Parade Band Party.
On the occasion, the minister gave away the best farmers awards and Self Help Group Award under ATMA.
