Thongwang inaugurates Konyak Heritage village

The foundation stone was laid by Konyak Students’ Union (KSU). Urging change in mindset of the people, Thongwang expressed unhappiness to observe that people today expect and value more money from the chief guests and give less importance to the speeches delivered by the chief guest. Enumerating on various developmental activities undertaken by his department, he informed that many development projects could not be completed in time due to instability of government in the State. He donated Rs 10 lakhs towards development of the heritage village and lauded the KSU and the Leangha village for initiating and donating the land. Deputy Commissioner, Mon, W Honje Konyak, in his speech, lauded the students’ community for taking the initiative to establish the heritage village to promote and treasure the rich culture and traditions of the Konyaks. He also extended gratitude to Leangha village for donating the land for development, which would benefit the Konyaks. He said the proposed location for the heritage village was a conserved land under the Forest Department to protect the water source which is supplied to Mon town. He asserted that the purpose of the heritage village is to promote and preserve the age old cultural and traditions of the Konyaks which is gradually fading away. The DC appealed to all the Konyak NGOs, legislators and all concerned to extend their cooperation and support to find ways and means for development of the village. He added that the responsibility of developing the project lies with the entire Konyaks. Loung Anghpa of Leangha village said the land was donated free of cost for the community development of the Konyaks. He urged the Konyak leaders not to the leave the project half done or utilise it for personal benefit. He informed that his village is ever ready to donate more land if needed for the project. Presidents of KSU, KU and KNSK also spoke at the function. Earlier, the foundation stone was dedicated by pastor KBCM Nahngom. The function was chaired by TM Wapa, speaker KSU.
