Third fire incident in Kohima

KOHIMA, DECEMBER 20

IN yet another major fire incident in Kohima town within a week’s period, at least seven rooms of a RCC structured residential complex was completely destroyed last night in Midland colony below TCP Gate area.
Sources said the fire suspected to have broke out due to electrical short-circuit complete burnt down the top floor of the multi-storied building belonging to K Kapfo. Sources said that seven fire tenders were pushed to service but due to narrow passage within the colony, they faced immense problem to douse the fire. It took more than an hour to completely douse the fire along with the support of the colony people before it could spread to the nearby houses and shops.
There was no human casualty, sources said, adding that the actual value of the properties destroyed has not yet been ascertained.
Meanwhile, observing immense inconveniences in the effective execution of their duty in the recent incidents of outbreak of fire in some localities of the State Capital Kohima, the District Administration, Police and Fire and Emergency Services departments have requested the public to extend its fullest cooperation by observing the following appeals/suggestions.
In a press communique, SP Kohima, Rothihu Tetseo, said all roads leading to colonies and by-lanes which are mostly narrow needs to be cleared from all shorts of obstructions especially during night time to allow free flow of vehicular traffic.
While appreciating the support extended by the public to the concerned departments, it appealed that unnecessary gathering/over crowding the place of incident be avoided to allow free passage to the volunteers and the enforcing agencies to allow the Fire & Emergency Services to function independently.
