Dimapur, Oct. 31 (EMN): National Health Mission Director Dr. Kevichusa Medikhru on Saturday inaugurated Thilixu sub-centre which was upgraded to a health and wellness centre.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Dr. Medikhru informed that the health and wellness centre is a part of the government of India’s initiative under Ayushman Bharat to provide free access to healthcare and comprehensive primary health care. The other component of Ayushman Bharat is the Pradhan Mantra Jan Arogya Yojana , which provides free access for those needing special hospitilisation and treatment, he added.

He also said that the centre has been created by transforming the existing sub-centre and would deliver comprehensive primary health care bringing healthcare closer to the homes of people covering both maternal and child health services and non-communicable diseases including free essential drugs and diagnostic services and recently, telemedicine as well.

Today, he said, most people suffer from non-communicable disease such as hypertension, diabetes, cancer that leads to kidney failure or heart problems and cancer. These major illnesses can be easily prevented if treated early, added.

Dr. Medikhru informed that the centre would provide comprehensive primary health care services as well as a screen for NCD and cancer. He also mentioned that a community health officer, who was trained especially to provide the services, is being posted in the centre.

He, therefore, urged the community to avail the services provided at their doorsteps and further requested them to take ownership of the centre and extend their support and co-operation to the healthcare workers.

Director (Dental) Dr. H Hotokhu Chishi said the opening of healthcare centres is for the uplift of the community, therefore, citizens should avail the services provided.

Unless the community uses the services provided, the need of the community will not be reflected in the centre’s performance and thus no further improvement will be granted to the health centre, he said while urging the community to support the staff.

Chairman of Thilixu Village Council Nikhevi Yeptho while welcoming the guests declared that the village will provide additional land or room if needed for a fully functional health unit.

Invocation prayer was delivered by Rev. Dr. Hevukhu Achumi, Sr. pastor of Thilixu Village Baptist Church while the programme was chaired by Chief Medical Officer of Dimapur Dr. Mereninla Senlem.

Joint Director Dr. Kheshito Zhimo, Medical Superintendent Dr. Kuveduyi Theyo, Deputy CMO Dr. Antoly, DTO Dr. Benchilo, DPO Dr. Rebecca, SMO Dr. Kheshika, DPMU and HWC staff, and village council members attended the programme.
