Thetsümi (Phek) — Setting a precedent for good governance and development, Thetsümi village in Phek district on Wednesday celebrated the ‘Rural development success year of Thetsümi village 2024’ at its community hall with the commissioner and secretary of Rural Development, Kevisa Kense, as the chief guest.

Speaking at the event, Kense expressed delight on the work done by Thetsümi village and praised them for their collective efforts in establishing a good reputation.

With everything being digitised now, he stated that the post of village development board (VDB) secretary should be held by educated person, who has genuine concern for the village. He lamented that the posts of village council chairman (VCC) and VDB secretary are now contested in elections.

On the occasion, he announced a grant for Panchayat Bhawan through the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) for upgrade of the panchayat hall.

Observing the village community’s interest in pig farming, he also announced a grant for the same. He also emphasised the need for insurance in the animal husbandry sector to cover losses in the event of disease outbreaks among livestock.

Kense stressed the importance of unity for progress and development of the village community.

Dwelling on securing government jobs, he stated that one must now pass competitive exams such the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) and the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) in a transparent manner. In this regard, he urged the students to remain consistent in their efforts.

A success report was presented by the VDB secretary, Mesevekha Doulo, who expressed his delight in serving the village for two consecutive terms. He acknowledged the Rural Development Department for their support in the village’s development.

“Today is a proud day for Thetsümi village as we celebrate the rural development success year, fulfilling the people’s aspirations through various developmental schemes undertaken by the department of Rural Development, Government of Nagaland. Bringing infrastructure to rural livelihood has become a living success story for the village and the department,” Doulo said.

He acknowledged the authorities and officers of the Rural Development department, both past and present, including project directors and block development officers, who have shown a keen interest in the uplift and development of rural villages.

He expressed that Thetsümi village was fortunate to receive the sympathy and support of the department’s officers, who have ensured to bring desired projects to fruition. He also commended the officials for their support and intellectual contributions in fostering all-around development.

Duolo further appreciated the cooperation and guidance of former VCC, Vetsope Venuh, incumbent VCC, Vetshe Tsuzuh, and the council members.

The commissioner and secretary also inaugurated the view tower, main water reservoir tank and footsteps.

The DRDA project director of Phek, Vihesanuo Solo, virtually inaugurated the Agri-link road, while the block development officer (BDO) of Chizami, Keviseyieno Sale, virtually inaugurated the guest house-cum-office building and the rural development officer (RDO), Veduzo Sasu, virtually inaugurated the hanging bridge.

On the occasion, the RDO Vizonuo Pienyü also virtually inaugurated the women’s building and the former BDO of Chizami, Angam P Longho, virtually inaugurated the horti-plantation (one family, one project).

The director of Rural Development, K Inazhe Phuleshe, released the ‘Rural development success year of Thetsümi village 2024’ magazine.
