Dimapur, Dec 11: President of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) K Therie emphasised on the need to preserve own language and culture in an era where society has lost the values of respect for elders.
Speaking at the 21st annual Metsü Mehpu cum Rünyi Festival of the Kuzhami Welfare Association Dimapur (KUWA) at Chumukedima on December 10 as ‘We Tetshü Tarho Kehtsüo,’ Therie said our culture is overtaken by ignorance.
He called upon Kuzhami government servants to extend help and support upcoming generations to face different challenges ahead and not only sit and perform their duty in the office alone.
He expressed concern over the fast changing society in Nagaland where un-employment has reached its peak. He reminded the gathering that unless people join a political party and participate, the society will not change as the government of the day will be run by a political party. He urged upon the gathering to elect God fearing leaders from any political party so that he/she will deliver justice to the public.
Meanwhile, new team for KUWA for 2016-2019 tenure was inducted during the annual mepu. The new team will be headed by Dr. Eyekhweshe Kepfoh as president, Kewethro Kapfo and Kevelo Doulo as vice presidents and Neipete Therie as general secretary.
The programme was chaired by Mrs. Kekhrongulo-ü Kapfo, while the presidential address was delivered by Wekhape Letro, president KUWA. The significance of Rünyi festival was shared by Mikha Lomi, president Kuzhalhu Zawe. Special number and folk tunes were performed by Krowemi Union Dimapur and Lasumi Union Dimapur respectively, while invocation was said by Rev. Dr. K Kapfo, pastor of Kuzhami Baptist Church, Chumukedima, followed by Rünyi feast.
