DIMAPUR — Former president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) K Therie has claimed that the resolution adopted during the latest public consultation on Naga political issue has shifted all the responsibilities to the negotiating teams and the government of India (GoI).

“Urging the government of India to appoint a new interlocutor at the minister level to initiate a new talk amounts to going back from the agreements signed with the interlocutor in the presence of the prime minister, home minister, and defence minister of India in full view of the people,” Therie said in a press statement issued on Sunday.

According to him, the outcome of the Sep. 12 consultative meeting called by the state government was futile. “What more do resolutions do they want when we have two agreements and the talks have concluded on 31st October 2019?  What needs to be done is implement the agreements,” he stated.

Therie further pointed out that “political solution” belongs to the stakeholders and not to any organisation. “It cannot be shifted to one faction or GoI to list out the details of our requirements.

“Legally and constitutionally, the elected Members have enough authority to work out the details on behalf of the stakeholders. However, if they need more consultation, they may and list out the justified aspirations,” he added.

The former NPPC chief recalled that the Congress’ Lok Sabha election manifesto of 2024 also offered to resolve the political issue. “Given opportunity, we are ready to implement. We already have a draft of the solution.

“The president, NPCC signed the consultative meeting resolution of 12th September 2024 which aims for a new initiative. It is a deviation from the Congress’ stand in respect to political solution,” he stated.
