Kohima, Oct. 27 (EMN): The president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), K Therie, on Tuesday said that 60-Pungro-Kiphire assembly is important as the constituency has supported Congress candidate and has stood for secularism and against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) during the Lok Sabha election that was held last year.

The NPCC candidate for 60-Pungro-Kiphire A/C for the forthcoming bye-election, scheduled to be held on November 3 is, Khaseo Anar.

Therie said this while speaking to media persons after meeting with Congress supporters at Kiphire on Tuesday.

He said that all intending candidates were vying for BJP ticket this time. Therefore, he expressed apprehension that the people from the constituency, who had earlier voted against CAA, will now ‘change their minds to hindutva ideology’ in a fortnight.

He also said that only INC candidate has come out with election manifesto, out of five intending candidates for the constituency. He assured that Congress party ‘will live up to expectation and fulfil its election manifesto’.

The NPCC president added that if Anar is elected, he will be the “salt in the state assembly because of the ideology of the Congress” and this itself will change the political equation in the state.

While highlighting the party manifesto, Therie said that the Congress believes in a healthy and vibrant public economy.

He assured that the party will work towards opening the doors of banks and other financial institutions to farmers and entrepreneurs “which NDPP and BJP have closed, depriving all loan avenues”.

He also said that the party will fight against corruption and rescue the state from it.
