The Nagaland Madrigal Singers wins two gold medals at 13th World Choir Games
KOHIMA— The Nagaland Madrigal Singers (TNMS) bagged two gold medals at the 13th World Choir Games (WCG) held at Auckland in New Zealand.
TNMS bought laurels to the state by winning gold medals in Mixed Chamber Choir and Contemporary Music Mixed Voices.
Established in the year 2000, World Choir Games is one of the largest choral festival and competition in the globe and has been called the ‘Olympics of choral singing’. This year’s event was held in New Zealand from July 10 to the 20th.
Representing India at the mega event choral event, TNMS performed Tiqhe Tini, Leron Leron, Gloria Patri and Kalejs Kala Debesis for the Mixed Chamber Choir category while they performed Swara, Conversion of Saul, Hentakan Jiwa and Hallelujah for the Contemporary Music Mixed Voices to claim the medals.
The choir was handed over their accolades during the closing ceremony on Saturday.
During a short electronic interaction, Nungsangmanen Longkumer, one of the members of TNMS told Eastern Mirror, “Our choir’s reaction to winning the gold medal at the 13th World Choir Games 2024 was beyond words! When they announced our name, we were all stunned – we had not even expected a silver medal, let alone the gold! The sheer surprise and elation that washed over us were indescribable,”
“Tears of joy, hugs of celebration, and a sense of accomplishment filled the air as we realised that all our hard work had paid off in the most extraordinary way possible. Winning the gold medal was a moment of pure magic and a testament to our unity and dedication as a choir family,” Longkumer shared.
